Strategy. Multicomponent: Caregiver Education + Health Care Provider Education + Hospital Safe Sleep Policy + Quality Improvement
Approach. Implement a multicomponent strategy that targets caregivers, child care providers, health care providers, and hospital systems with built-in quality improvement components.
Overview. Preliminary results indicate that multicomponent interventions including education for caregivers, child care providers, and health care providers as well as hospital level-policies with embedded quality improvement collaboratives may help to improve sustained infant safe sleep practices.1
Evidence. Emerging Evidence. Interventions implemented at the caregiver, health care provider, and hospital levels with quality improvement appear to be somewhat effective and have more impact than implementing single-strategy interventions focused on one group. Note. ESMs become stronger as they move from measuring quantity to measuring quality (moving from Quadrants 1 and 3, respectively, to Quadrants 2 and 4) and from measuring effort to measuring effect (moving from Quadrants 1 and 2, respectively, to Quadrants 3 and 4).
